Here’s a tip for those of you that have lenses with an auto focus override.
I’ve only tried this on lighted lettering. What you do is focus on the subject, click on the shutter and then rotate the auto focus override by a certain degree to achieve a fading out or glowing effect. The shutter setting should be set low enough for you to be able to rotate the auto focus override.
Some may argue that photography is having sharp photos. I beg to disagree, I believe that photography is being creative beyond your limits.

On the first photo, the auto focus override was not rotated.
Photos were taken using a Nikon 60mm f/2.8G ED AF-S Micro-Nikkor Lens mounted on a Nikon D40 body. A Manfrotto 725B tripod was used.
