The Elemental Designs (eD) A2-300 was recently updated about a month ago. eD has improved the internal bracing on the eD A2-300. By improved bracing, eD means they’ve put bracing onto the cabinet because the previous A2-300 did not have any. If you’re wondering what that bracing is for, then read on.
Bracing (A2-300 with bracing shown below) cuts down on vibrations that the subwoofer driver causes. It makes the enclosure more rigid. Ideally, movement should only be coming from the subwoofer driver itself. Otherwise, the cabinet might possibly produce sounds on its own when the driver gives off vibrations.
The first generation of the eD A2-300 did not have any sort of bracing (shown below) and was made with medium-density fiberboard (MDF). All eD powered subwoofers are now constructed with Environmentally Friendly Substrate (EFS).
Props to eD for continuously evolutionizing their powered home theater subwoofers!
