The Philips 56-inch 21:9 Cinemascope LCD TV has been endowed a price tag of £4,500 ($7,415 USD). Talk about putting it way beyond normal consumers’ reach.
Quite surprisingly, Daily Mail mentions that it has over 8.3-million pixels. That’s just a little bit over 4 times your normal full HD panel plasma or LCD TV.
Honestly, having a standard 16:9 panel would still be better because it would be able to accommodate multitudes of aspect ratios in a uniform manner. Yes, there would be black bars on the top and the bottom, but at least it looks normal and costs much much less. Given a choice and the same amount of money, I’d rather go for a 60-inch Pioneer KURO or a 65-inch Panasonic plasma.
No word on whether this 21:9 LCD TV will be arriving on US shores.
