Last month, Pioneer announced that it will cease production of its famous KURO plasmas. Yesterday, Pioneer Japan issued an announcement that they will roll out the last batch of KUROs starting April 1, 2009. The batch will consist of four models, two of which are 50-inches (RP-500A and KRP-500M) and two are 60-inches (KRP-600A and KRP-600M).
There will be no more KUROs starting May 2009. Pioneer has been producing plasma display panels since 1997. Better get your hands on these beautiful televisions while you can. Personally, I find that the black levels of Pioneer KURO plasmas are even better than CRTs!
Hopefully Hitachi, Samsung, LG and Panasonic will be able to keep up with plasma production and technology. I highly prefer plasmas over LCDs because of accurate black levels, faster response time, better color reproduction and astonishing picture quality.
