SVS is going to spawn some new siblings for its SB12-Plus sealed subwoofer. According to Ed Mullen of SVS product development and customer service, they are simply expanding their sealed subwoofer line-up to offer three different size / price / performance levels just like their ported box (PB10-NSD/PB12-NSD, PB12-Plus, PB13-Ultra) and cylinder (PC12-NSD, PC12-Plus, PC13-Ultra) line-ups.
These new sealed subwoofers will feature a front mounted bezel/display, come with an integrated digital signal processing (DSP) unit and a 1000W amplifier. The DSP essentially replaces the analog controls normally found on SVS subwoofers. Auto-Equalization (Auto-EQ) will not be available on the Plus model but might be an option on the Ultra. The auto-EQ will feature multi-band, multi-position algorithms.
Release date is said to be October 2009. Prices have not been indicated but rest assured both will be more expensive than the current SB12-Plus.
Shown below is the 15-inch Ultra prototype. As stated by Mike C of MKC International, nothing is final on the prototype. Specifications for the SB13-Plus and SB16-Ultra can also be found below.
