A home theater (HT) is a set of equipment which allows you to enjoy cinema-like experience at the comfort of your own home. It primarily consists of the following components:
- Display (LCD, Plasma, CRT, Projector)
- Audio-Video 5.1/7.1 Receiver
- Speakers
- Sources (Blu-ray Player, DVD Player, etc)
- Media (DVDs, Blu-ray Discs, HD DVDs)

Looking for more reasons to setup your own home theater?
Having such equipment allows you to experience enveloping surround sound just like you hear in theaters. Having a bigger screen also certainly helps in adding to the theatre-like moment.
Having a home theater can be considered a hobby (can be expensive one though!). There are endless combinations of equipment that you can purchase depending on your available budget and room constraints.
I personally got into this hobby when my brothers purchased a Yamaha YHT-500 HTIB (Home Theater In a Box) system around 5 years ago. It gave me a whole new experience in watching movies. It lets you feel you’re in the movie, just like in theaters.
It was not until recently that I got to experience what “real speakers” sound like. This of course nudged me to upgrade my speakers to get a better audio experience. I will post some info about my current setup soon. Keep posted!
