March 8, 2009 marks the 30th birthday/anniversary, or whatever you want to call it, of the compact disc. Philips first held a public demonstration of the compact disc (CD) on March 8, 1979. The format is widely used in the realm of audio CDs. Practically almost every vehicle in the world has a CD player. I suppose we will still see CDs for a very long time. It has pretty much held its own ground. Over 3.5 billion audio CD players have been sold along with 240 billion discs.
