I have never been much of a book reader but still Amazon’s Kindle product intrigues me. It fascinates me how a display can be the same as reading a book. It is dubbed as having an “electronic paper display.” I have never liked reading long documents or PDFs computer screens, whether it be on the now vanishing CRT monitors or LCD screens.
Amazon is rolling out the Kindle 2 for $359, starting February 24th.
The Kindle 2 offers the following improvements over the first generation Kindle. (Not a complete list.)
- Approximately 50% thinner. Kindle thickness: 0.7″. Kindle 2 thickness: 0.36″.
- Enhanced gray scale levels. Kindle had a 4-level gray scale while the Kindle 2 has a 16-level gray scale.
- Longer battery life. The Kindle 2 offers up to two weeks of battery life when the wireless feature is turned off. The first generation lasts a little over a week according to Amazon.
- Text-to-speech feature. This allows the Kindle 2 to read the book to you.
Do you have Amazon’s Kindle device? How do you like it and is it definitely worth the price tag?
