There was initially no word on whether Canon’s Powershot SX1 IS would be released on US shores. The SX1 IS features a 10.0 megapixel CMOS sensor along with full HD 1080p video recording, its main difference over its little sibling, the SX10 IS. The SX1 IS’s lens can do as much as 20x zoom (28-560mm) and is equipped with Canon’s Optical Image Stabilization. It has the capability to shoot RAW + JPEG and has a built-in HDMI connector for showing off those great photos and videos on that big HDTV screen. A 2.8″ widescreen vari-angle LCD is also integrated into the camera for easy viewing of photos and videos taken. Release is scheduled for April 2009, with a MSRP of $599.99.
