The recent release of Skype for the iPhone has prompted controversy among some carriers such as T-Mobile Germany and Rogers Canada. These two carriers have mentioned that there is indeed a possibility that they will be preventing local users from using Skype on the iPhone even via WiFi.
I can totally understand their position because they will lose money when users decide to run to Skype for their calling needs instead of using the network they subscribed to. It’s weird enough that many European carriers have been silent over this issue, for now. We’ll probably hear something in the coming days.
Apple has reportedly blocked the usage of Skype over 3G networks but as usual, people always like getting around things. Here’s some interesting information on how to use Skype over 3G on the Apple iPhone.
