Tamron announced that they are developing a macro lens for APS-C cameras. APS-C refers to non-full frame cameras, which means 80%+ of currently available DSLR’s.
This new 1:1 macro lens from Tamron will feature one significant difference over competing macro lenses. It has a maximum aperture of f/2.0 which means it’s one f-stop faster than those Canon and Nikon macro lenses currently available on the market. The Tamron SP AF 60mm F/2.0 Di II LD (IF) Macro 1:1 (Model G005) will have a minimum working distance of 100mm.
It will be available in three mounts, Canon, Nikon (with built-in AF motor which will allow it to be used with the D40, D40x, D60) and Sony. Release date and pricing are yet to be announced.
