Western Digital previously only offered 2TB versions of their My Book external hard drives in a form factor that was double the thickness (it uses two hard drives) of typical My Book external hard drives. Now they will have a 2TB My Book which will only utilize one hard drive.
The Western Digital My Book line-up comes in several models. The My Book Essential Edition is the basic PC-preformatted version with only a USB 2.0 interface. The My Book MAC Edition is essentially the same to the Essential Edition except that it is preformatted for use with MAC’s. The My Book Studio Edition (also MAC-preformatted) offers multiple interface connectivity, USB 2.0, Firewire 400/800 and eSATA.
Although I haven’t seen the My Book Studio Edition at any online stores yet, PC World claims that it is available now. The MAC edition will be available next month. No mention about the other editions but it would be safe to assume that they will all be arriving soon.
The prices on the Western Digital My Book 2GB’s will vary between $329 to $379 depending on the model. Multiple interface versions are more expensive compared to USB 2.0 only versions.
