Popcorn Hour C-200 will be available in the Philippines on mid-August for P19,800

Popcorn Hour C-200 Networked Media Tank (Front and Back)

The Popcorn Hour C-200 Networked Media Tank is reportedly slated for a mid-August 2009 release, according to the official Philippine distributor of the highly touted device which is capable of playing everything you can throw at it, minus the kitchen sink.

Pre-order is already ongoing in the forum section of the Philippine site for Popcorn Hour (you have to register in order for the threads and posts to show up).

Expected pricing for the Popcorn Hour C-200 is P19,800 but if you’re among the first 15 people to pre-order the networked media tank, you will enjoy a 7% discount which brings the price down to P18,500. And remember, the C-200 is capable of housing its own Blu-ray drive. Expected arrival of the device is sometime around mid-August.

The choice is up to you, get a standalone Blu-ray player such as the Oppo BDP-83 or get this all-in-one playing device. While the player prices are the same, cost of ownership for standalone Blu-ray players is way much higher since you have to legally purchase discs while for the Popcorn Hour… Let’s just say you have to know your way around things.

Surely, but I don’t think we have that one here in the Philippines. We have eGreat, Popcorn Hour, WD TV and HDX 1000.

Shocks! I wish I had known earlier. I have already asked a cousin in the US to ship me Mvix Ultio. I wanted its built-in BitTorrent client and built-in HDD that can support up to 1.5 TB.

You can always try to sell the Mvix Ultio first and see if there’s someone interested. What’s good with the latest Popcorn Hour is the small LCD display on the front along with the expansion slot for putting in a Blu-ray drive.

Does Popcorn Hour has the same or better features as Mvix Ultio? My Mvix Ultio is tagged at $259 with a built-in 1-TB HDD. I read in other reviews that PCH costs $299 without HDD yet. Additionally, Mvix Ultio supports RM/MVB (real media video formats) and has both a SAMBA client and a SAMBA server.

Yes, the PCH C-200 costs $299 without HDD. The previous model, the A-110, is much cheaper of course.

The PCH C-200 costs $412 USD if you convert the price given by the distributor here in the Philippines.

As per technical specifications, the PCH C-200 doesn’t seem to support RM/MVB but has SAMBA connectivity (although not specified if it can act as both client and server).
