Verizon HTC Touch Diamond2 getting a makeover and will be called Whitestone?

Verizon is getting the HTC Touch Diamond2 sometime later this year and it will rumoredly be codenamed “Whitestone.”

It’s also getting a bit of a makeover with what looks similar to metallic speaker grills (or an extremely fine cheese grater!).

Specifications include but are not limited to:

WM6.1 (would’ve been nicer if they were able to squeeze in WM6.5 instead)
Qualcomm 7600 @ 528MHz
512MB ROM/256MB RAM
3.6-inch WVGA (800 x 480) touchscreen
5-megapixel autofocus camera/Anti-handshaking
gpsOne (aGPS and full GPS)
GSM/CDMA World phone

According to the guys over at WMExperts, September/October 2009 is likely the release window for the blinged out device.

AT&T‘s HTC Warhawk (otherwise known as the HTC Touch Diamond2) passed FCC approval. Everything is basically the same as the unbranded version, except that this one has AT&T-specific firmware.

While the FCC has already approved the device for AT&T, it may still be a while before this device makes its way into AT&T stores. Pricing has also not yet been announced.

Shown above are some data from the FCC document which indicate that the frequency bands that the North American version will be using.

Shown above is a page scanned from Gadgets magazine which talks about the highlights of the latest HTC Touch phones, the Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2, along with their corresponding prices for the Philippines. The HTC Touch Diamond2 is priced at P36,900 or around $750 USD, while the HTC Touch Pro2 is priced at P48,900 or around $1,000 USD.

According to the sales representative I spoke with at the HTC Concept Store at SM Mall of Asia, these two are available on order basis. They do not have ready stocks on-hand.

The HTC Touch Pro2 has been extensively reviewed at PocketNow.com and Mobile-Review. The HTC Touch Diamond2 has also been reviewed at PocketNow.com.

There is quite a difference (over $100 USD) between Singapore and Philippine prices for the Touch Pro2. If you live in North America, consider yourself lucky since both these smartphones are cheap there. By cheap, I mean relative to prices in other countries of course.

HTC has been following in the footsteps of the Apple iPhone with their intuitive and finger-based navigation system called the TouchFLO 3D.

The HTC Touch Diamond2 is already available from Expansys UK.

According to the press release for Singapore, the HTC Touch Diamond2 becomes available starting mid May 2009, while the HTC Touch Pro2 will arrive at the end of June 2009.

The HTC Touch Pro2 will be selling for $1,328 SGD (roughhy $885 USD), while the HTC Touch Diamond2 will be selling for $1,088 SGD (roughly $727 USD).

The pricing will pretty much remain close all over the world. So expect your wallet to thin down after purchasing one of these beautiful phones.

The HTC Touch Diamond2 is set to make its debut in Taiwan (where HTC headquarters is located) sometime this month.

The HTC Touch Diamond2 features a 3.2-inch WVGA (800 x 480) screen, all your usual multitude of connectivity options sans infrared, microSD expansion slot and it doesn’t have that ugly looking diamond cut edges on the back of the device. It also features a 5 megapixel camera; why HTC is inconsistent with providing LED flash units for their devices is certainly a mind-boggling thing.

Couple all the mentioned stuff above with Windows Mobile and HTC’s TouchFLO interface and you’re all set to conquer the smartphone world.

Stumbled upon these upcoming HTC phones while doing some Froogle search. Mobile City Online shows the expected arrival/release date of the HTC Touch Diamond2 as April 15, 2009 ($580), while the HTC Touch Pro2 (screenshot after the jump) is expected to arrive on June 25, 2009 ($750).

The online store has a Froogle rating of 4.4 out of 5 based on 1,952 reviews. Not too bad, but it still pays to be cautious when ordering such expensive devices online. Better ask your friends and colleagues if they’ve had any dealings with the company, just to make sure.

Apparently, the company has a physical store in New York. You may want to check them out if you live near the area and are looking to get your hands on these phones as unlocked and unbranded. Do note that these phones are indicated as “Import,” so it is highly unlikely that it will not come with any sort of warranty.

Of course, you can also wait for T-Mobile rumored release of their HTC Touch Pro2 (codenamed Wing II) sometime in July 2009.

Update (April 21, 2009): Mobile City Online has updated the ETA for its HTC Touch Diamond2 release, it is now showing up as No ETA at this time.

Update (April 30, 2009): Mobile City Online has updated the ETA for its HTC Touch Diamond2 release, it is now showing up as In Stock. Price has risen by about $20 to $599.99 but still… Go get yours now!

For UK people, Expansys UK lists the expected release dates of the HTC Touch Diamond2 and HTC Touch Pro2 as May 11, 2009 and June 5, 2009 respectively.
